Let’s Build A KATO Pocket Line Diorama
I’ve been focused recently with carving my own rock work in XPS foam and also with KATO N scale Pocket Line trains, so I thought I’d combine the two in this fun little diorama build. This small diorama is carved from one of the circular foam bases I cut in our last video using the Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter, you can see that video here: Raildig Proxxon Hot Wire Circle Cutter.
I’ve made this a 2-part video, as I really wanted to focus on the two main topics of foam carving and the actual scenery work to go on top of the carved rocks. Also, as I’m working hard to keeping to a new video production and release date, I wanted to get this video out on time.
I decided to try my hand and working with an N scale 3D printed house to sit on top our diorama in this video. I found a talented designer over on Etsy, HDCustomDesign. Here’s the link to his Etsy storefront: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HDCustomDesign. His name is Ryan, and aside from being a terrific designer he was very easy and helpful to work with.
I know model railroading can be expensive (but not always… think KATO Pocket Line trains), so when I find things that I think are very reasonably priced, I like to talk about them. Seems I’m on kind of a mission to get more people into this amazing hobby! The building I used in this video is called the Sears Silverdale 1920s Kit Home from HDCustomDesign and at the time of this video, November 2025, it costs just $13.99.
I hope you enjoy the video and if you do, please consider subscribing to our YouTube channel and our NewsLetter here: Raildig Newsletter. Thanks, John
